Just Said Yes!

I played it off like it was just a regular visit. I came up Friday, we saw a movie, came back and went to sleep. The next day, we were supposed to go to her mom's house. So we got ready, and before we were about to leave I told her to come sit down on the couch, and that I had something to tell her. I said, "I wanted to make sure it all came out right, so I wrote it in a letter." Then I handed her a sealed envelope and she opened it. Inside was one of those kiddie style "Do you like me?" letters with a box for yes and another box for no. So I hand her a pen, and she checks yes. Then I said, "Well, that was just to lighten the mood. That wasn't the real letter. Here's the real one. I'm not sure how you're gonna take it, so I don't want to watch you read it. So I'm gonna go into the bedroom, and just come in when you're done reading." I looked somber, too. Shoulda gotten an award. But I digress.  So I'm sitting in the bedroom, and I start hearing sniffles. I thought to myself, "I hope that's not allergies!" Oh, and by the way, the letter was basically me telling her everything I love about her. I filled up the front and the entire back of a page, and on the last few lines I said that that's just a taste...I wouldn't have enough paper to write everything I loved about her. So she comes into the room crying, she hugs me, and says "I love you too". Then I took her hands and looked her in her eyes and said, "I could have told you that in person, but I wanted you to have a permanent record so that if for any reason you had any doubts you could look at this letter and know how much I love you." Then I said, "But I have something else to tell you, too." Then I took her hand and got down on my knee. And I told her, "I want to kiss you good night every night and wake up every morning in your arms. I want to laugh with you, cry with you, make love with you. I want to raise a family with you, I want to grow old with you, I want you to be my wife. Ngozi Chimezie Agukoronye, will you marry me?" And then she fell to both of her knees, hugged and kissed me, and after a good minute, finally said "Of course yes, I'll marry you!" Then I slipped on the ring and took some pictures of the moment. We took pictures throughout the day to document the day, went and got them developed with doubles, and put them in two matching photo albums.

the end.

(or rather, the beginning…)
