What can I say? This has been my boy since ’94. Little did I know that when we met (if only you knew the circumstances), we’d become such good friends. As a requirement of said good friendship, he’s basically had to hear about every high (and low) of my relationship with Ngozi. So, for patiently enduring such torture, he has been awarded with this position of prestige. Oh, and he paid me fifty bucks.
The younger brother I never had. We’re such good friends that at one point I wanted him to actually BE my brother, and was trying to hook him up with my sister Nneka. Fortunately for all parties involved, we quickly realized he wasn’t good enough and he eventually had to settle for Omonele. Can’t win em all, bud.
The way, way, WAY older brother I never had. Okay, I take a couple of the “ways” back. Even though I gave him more female advice than he gave me (shouldn’t it have been the other way around?), he still always lent a listening ear and had good advice to offer whenever needed. That’s the only reason I agreed to wear LILAC at his wedding. Plus, thanks to his voracious reading appetite, he left several novels around my house which I ended up picking up and reading. I would have missed out on a lot of great stories without your book littering. Thanks, man!
A bit of vanilla in a sea of chocolate. Just kidding! Paul used to be my Bible Quiz coach, until I became a Bible Quiz coach under him 8 years later, and eventually became director of the program after he handed it over to me this past year. Outside of Bible Quiz, Paul has been one of my very best friends. His house is definitely my home away from home. Not to mention, Paul has got to be the nicest guy I’ve met. He’s nice to a fault, and he’s all heart. I love you, man!
Where would I be without this guy? He is one of the nicest guys I know. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have had a place to stay in Dallas in the early stages of my relationship with Ngozi. In that oh-so-important time period, Okey had an open-door policy for me and even vacated his own house to leave us alone together (don’t worry mommies, God was watching). Considering we’d only met once before, he came back into my life at just the right time. And he just happened to know Ngozi, and his parents and mine just happened to be very good friends. Is God good or what?
The college roommate. Boy, did we see some times together. This is my man for LIFE. This dude is crazy talented. He draws, he sculpts, he films, he does web work…not to mention teaches gymnastics on the side! Oh, and he’s easily the strongest dude I’ve ever met. Now I ain’t no punk, but this guy makes me feel weak. He once pushed a car TWO MILES like it was nothing! I hope you don’t flex and rip your tux, man. Those damage fees are crazy.
Ngozi’s cousin currently residing in the U.K., flying all the way out here to
Houston to represent as one of my groomsmen. That’s love, folks. You are much appreciated. Oh, and just an aside for all you Brits, they call it the RIGHT side of the road for a reason! U.S.A. all day, baby.
